the infinity of an intimate distance, 2023
archival pigment prints, neon, modified rocks
approx. 193.2cm x 162.5cm / 76” x 64” (overall installed)
This work references a performative action that took place in front of Mount Hood in Oregon, involving wrapping an illustration of the mountain peak around a found rock and repeatedly throwing it in the air in an attempt to fold and conflate image and reality. This proposition aimed to confront the experience of being there, in relation to the anticipation of that experience, exploring the idea that there is an intrinsic value in failure. Images are aligned together to create the illusion of a whole and neon tubing is used as a celebratory stand in for the imagined moment; a glowing nod to the sublime that holds images together in an attempt to create an alluring sense of grandeur.
