Thinking about a comparison between the framing of a landscape and how our perception frames a subject in order to understand it, this work considers landscape composition as a metaphor for how we interpret our every day reality. Appearing precariously balanced, the components of each piece jostle to form a composition that is dependent on rocks taken from the landscape. These rocks enable each frame to assume its hierarchical order; that of foreground, middle ground and background. The push and pull between real and represented reveals a precarious synergy that proposes comparisons with the complicated, confounding experience of being a lone figure surrounded by nature.
