between the sky and us (reprise), 2022
archival pigment prints, modified rocks, 84cm x 864cm / 33” x 340”
This work is a recording of repeated attempts to throw a photographed sky back into the sky; a futile and impossible feat to fold reality and representation in on one another and to hold multiple moments within one. Thinking about how memories layer and assemble to inform our sense self in relation to time and place, the work contrasts the fleeting intangibility of such thoughts and feelings with the the tactile physicality of the image. By highlighting the creases and holes left by the falling rocks, the work points to feelings of a gradually diminishing certainty where our image-based understanding of reality renders us vulnerable.
